For our main task we have to create the opening sequence to a film, including titles. Our production must las no longer than 2 minutes.
Our work will be marked out of 100 which will be divided into three categories of marking.
Research and Planning - 20 Marks
For any film to be successful it requires a huge amount of research and planning so that the film can be shot, edited and released in the shortest period of time possible. This is important because when you produce a film it requires many costly things for example, paying all your cast and crew for their time, paying to use studios and locations, paying for catering for the cast and crew. Therefore the quicker a film is wrapped the cheaper it is for the producers.
When researching and planning for our film some of the tasks we will carry out include:
- Audience Research - This will help us get an understanding of the genres that are popular with the different age categories.
- Film Deconstructions - We will deconstruct and analyse up to 3 films of our chosen genre so that we can spot typical conventions of the genre and help us get ideas for our film.
- Initial Ideas - We will brainstorm ideas for movie openings and title ideas.
- Film Treatment - For our finalised idea we will create a Treatment which displays the films title, genre, a brief synopsis, a pitch and character details.
- Location Research - This will allow us to plan our filming more carefully as we know the area and we can see if there are any restrictions.
- Casting Research - This will help us to see if our chosen actors are correct for the role and if they are able to portray the character as we would like.
- Costume Research and List - This will allow us to find appropriate outfit choices for the characters in order to give a convincing portrayal or the characters age and gender.
- Props Research and List - So that we can decide what props are needed and find out if there is any restrictions of using the props.
- Storyboard - This will help us plan out the filming schedule and can also be used when filming to know what scene comes next. We could also create an animated storyboard so that we have a rough idea of the length of our production.
- Shotlist - This will be used when filming to know what shot comes next.
- Risk Assessment - We will carry out a risk assessment in order to be safe when filming and ensure the safety of our actors.
- Filming Plan - We will including approximate timings so that we don't run out of time when filming and allow ourselves enough time to get each shot.
Construction of Film Titles and Opening - 60 Marks
During this stage we will film our shots and write a reflection on what went well and how we could have improved.
We will then begin to edit our shots together to create the final production. We will get feedback from our focus group to see how we could improve and apply them to our editing.
Evalutation - 20 Marks
Finally, we will evaluate our final production and reflect on the process identifying the positives but also the negatives and the problems we encountered and how we overcame them. We will also consider what we have learnt throughout the process.
